THYME to TURNIP the BEET on WHAT KIDS EAT with Sticky Fingers Cooking

With Sticky Fingers Cooking

If there is one thing that brings families together and stirs independent kids, it’s a shared meal that they help prepare. That was the inspiration for Kristie Reid to launch the Colorado Springs territory of Sticky Fingers Cooking.

While Sticky Fingers Cooking is newer to southern Colorado, it has deep roots in the state. They have nourished OVER ONE MILLION young chefs across the country since 2011, teaching kids that cooking is a blend of science, art, and - most importantly - fun. From mastering the “claw grip” for safe slicing to understanding the science of leavening, students gain practical life skills and an appreciation for food that extends beyond the kitchen counter.

For Kristie, this isn’t just a business, it’s personal. Her kids grew up in the kitchen and with Sticky Fingers Cooking as a highlight of their childhood. From birthday parties where they whipped up their own treats to the skills they brought home to the kitchen from after-shool programs, these events shaped their relationship with food. Kristie is passionate about extending this experience to our local community.

Sticky Fingers Cooking is hitting the ground running with several ways for local kiddos to get in the kitchen:

  • Before & After School Cooking Clubs: These sessions turn the classroom into a culinary lab, teaching nutrition and kitchen safety in a hands-on environment.
  • Private Events: They bring the party to you! It’s a hands no-stress way for parents to help their children celebrate a special day.
  • Seasonal Camps: Perfect for keeping hands busy and taste buds exploring during school breaks.

Whether a child is a picky eater or a budding "Top Chef," Sticky Fingers Cooking aims to foster curiosity and confidence in kids of all abilities and backgrounds. The program is designed to be inclusive, accommodating all allergies while ensuring the primary ingredient is always fun. Beyond just making food, these classes help children practice math through measuring and reading comprehension through following recipes.

Local families can follow @stickyfingerscooking_cosprings on Instagram to stay updated on upcoming classes and ongoing Summer Camp enrollment.

The impact of these classes is best captured by the young chefs themselves. After a recent session, 8-year-old Grayson beamed, "My parents aren't going to believe I made this! It's so good! I LOVE COOKING!"
